Mercedes-Benz is planning a wind farm at its test track in Papenburg, northern Germany.
Energy park developer UKA has secured a long term agreement to deploy 20 wind turbines.
The approval process is planned to start before the end of 2023 and construction could begin as early as 2024, with the wind park fully operational in 2026.
With a capacity of 120MW, the farm will be fully functional under a power purchase agreement (PPA) that will meet around 20% of Mercedes’ electricity needs in Germany per year.
“By 2039, we intend to cover the energy needs of our global production network entirely with renewable energies, and therefore without CO2 emissions,” said production and supply chain management chief Joerg Burzer.
The company is also considering installing solar panels at the test facility.
